Meet Nathan Hui

Nathan Hui Portrait
Nathan Hui · Kowloon

Nathan Hui studied filmmaking before returning to Hong Kong and taking his camera into a licensed red taxi. Driving became a different way of seeing the city.

He spent a year as a full-time taxi driver in Hong Kong, navigating the street rhythm after dark. Driving gave him first-hand experience of Kowloon's dense alleys, quiet roads above the harbor, and container terminals. He began photographing and filming the city through the windscreen, sharing those perspectives online.

Visual Philosophy

Nathan's journeys are built on a visual contrast: old tenement blocks sitting against glass towers, flyovers passing residential windows, and wet asphalt reflecting neon lights. He designs routes as authored stories, adapting details in real time as weather and lighting conditions shift.

Origin of Sleepless Driver

The project began as late-night drive videos uploaded to YouTube, capturing the atmosphere of the passenger seat. After his films gathered millions of views, Nathan launched Sleepless Driver Tours to invite travelers into that perspective in person. Nathan remains the sole host, reviewing every request and driving every group.
